The very young Mariners Women’s Lacrosse program competed in their season home opener on Sunday morning against a very experienced Cal Poly Mustangs. The story behind the game was the draw controls. The draw control in Women’s Lacrosse similar to the Face Off in men’s lacrosse is crucial for possession opportunities. That is where Cal Poly had the clear advantage over Marymount. Cal Poly won 87% of the draw controls as they kept possession for most of the first half. However, Marymount persevered in the second half with a stellar job from their team defense. They beat Cal Poly in the take away category that lead to numerous fast breaks for the Mariners. The Marymount College Women’s Lacrosse program will head back to work on February 24th as they head to USC.
